Most exhibits are too precious or fragile to be displayed without the protection of a showcase. Reconstructions can, however, be presented without the need for glass; they can be touched and walked through. The exhibits can thus be experienced by both the tactile and visual senses.

Pillow lava, a lava form found on the ocean bed, was reconstructed as a model and was lit so as to appear to glow with heat from within.

In the case of this 20m high brown coal wall, the visitor can both see and feel its structure, colour and numerous stratifications. Matrixes made in the brown coal mining area in Ampflwang were used in the production of the wall.
